EMERALD SUNDAY

Emerald Sunday is a Scottish indie/rock band. Formed by songwriter Alan Hunter (guitar/vocals), the band hails from Kirriemuir- the same, small town of the Angus Glens as AC/DC legend, Bon Scott. Hunter is joined by Mike Martin on vocals, Matthew Fleming (lead guitar), Euan Mushet (bass) Mike Juraszewski (drums) and Andrew Taylor (keys).

With an eclectic mix of influences, ranging from Oasis and Stereophonics to Porcupine Tree and Skid Row, the band’s sound has drawn comparisons to Emerson Lake and Palmer and, fellow Celts, Feeder. With a loyal fan base since their early days, the band really started to gain traction after supporting Big Country at the Ironworks, Inverness, in 2016 and playing the main stage at Enjoy Music Festival in 2017, with Primal Scream headlining. Following a charity event in Leeds, connections were made with Richard McNamara, of Embrace fame, which led to McNamara producing and performing on Sunday’s album, ‘Willow’.

After being named among the Courier’s ‘Impact 100’ 2019 (a summary of the year’s most influential Scots), it seemed the sky was the limit for the indie rockers, as HMV Dundee overflowed at Willow’s album launch, preceding a sold-out show at Dundee’s Church… in February 2020. Soon, a little- known virus called Covid-19 would put the brakes on the band’s trajectory, as they went without another live gig for two years. As the world got back on its feet, so did Emerald Sunday- in a big way: with a gig at Liverpool’s iconic The Cavern Club, reaching a whole new fan base.
